Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma introduces EU2015.LV

Shortly before taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU from Italy, Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma introduces the official website of the Latvian Presidency – EU2015.LV. The website will provide the latest news from the Latvian Presidency, live broadcasts from events, practical information, as well as introduce Latvia and tell its story. "We are proud to hold the Presidency because we believe that being part of the European family makes us more prosperous and safer," says the Latvian Prime Minister.

EU2015.LV , the "home" of the Presidency, will be a dynamic platform that not only contains key information but also acts as a digital business card for Latvia in the European Union.

Presented research on the benefits for the Latvian economy from the Presidency of the Council of the European Union

Today, 12 December, KPMG Baltics SIA presented its research "Assessment of the impact of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union on the Latvian economy" (in Latvian). It was assessed in the research that the total benefit for the Latvian economy from the Presidency of Latvia of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2015 will amount to 64.5 million Euro. The Presidency will ensure tax revenue increase, promote employment, increase resident income, positively affect tourism development and improve the professional capacity of the staff of state institutions.

Towards a special European mission; international conference in Riga discusses Presidency

Pre-Presidency conference discussions"Presidency is an opportunity to define and change the country’s role in the EU. For the Latvian government the Presidency is a special European calling and a mission. As the presiding country Latvia will be put on the political map for EU citizens and governments from outside the EU – particularly since it belongs to the group of smaller and newer members," - in the introduction of the analysis of the Latvian Presidency states Trans-European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) which traditionally presents recommendations to the incoming presidencies.

Conference of Presidents meets the incoming Latvian Presidency in Riga

EP Conference of Presidents meets the incoming Latvian PresidencyConference of Presidents of the European Parliament (EP) are meeting today with the Latvian officials in Riga to discuss the incoming Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), scheduled for the first half of 2015. The Conference met with the Latvian Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and the government ministers this morning. The officials discussed the priorities of the Latvian Presidency: competitive, digital and engaged Europe.
