BMW Group and Inchcape BM Auto Become Official Partners of the Latvian Presidency

Created on 2014-08-28

Transporatation services for the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be provided by BMW Group and Inchape BM Auto. This was announced by Foreign minister Edgars Rinkēvičs at a press conference on Wednesday, August 27, naming the first official partner of the Latvian Presidency.

“By signing an agreement of approximately 1.5 million euro, BMW Group and Inchcape BM Auto have made a significant contribution to the Latvian Presidency of the EU Council in the provision of various vehicles for use during the Presidency. These vehicles will be utilised in the transportation of both heads of state and foreign ministers. We hope that this example will encourage other potential supporters” said Foreign minister Edgars Rinkēvičs.

Although the twenty-five thousand foreign visitors of the Presidency will be encouraged to mainly use public transport, personal transport solutions will be necessary for certain events. From January 2 to June 30 of 2015, BMW Group and Inchcape BM Auto plan to provide up to 218 vehicles to meet the transportation needs of the Latvian Presidency, which will include cars for heads of delegations and vans for accompanying delegations, as well as other vehicles to meet protocol and security requirements of the Latvian Presidency.

To choose the official transport service provider, the Secretariat of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union established the dedicated selection committee, which determined the offer from BMW Group and Inchcape BM Auto as the most appropriate. BMW AG concern over the years has developed extensive experience in the provision of such transport solutions for projects in a number of countries around the world. The most recent example was during Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, when BMW group in cooperation with their Lithuanian representative provided the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with BMW cars.

From January 1 to June 30 of 2015, Latvia will become the presiding country of the Council of the European Union for the first time in its history. Businesses, enterprises and citizens are all invited to offer their products and services, as well as financial support for a successful Latvian Presidency.
