Created on 2014-09-24The 8th Nordic–Baltic Choral Festival will take place in Latvia from June 25–28, 2015, and will be the concluding event of the public diplomacy and cultural programme of the Latvian presidency of the Council of the European Union. Choirs from Baltic and Nordic countries are welcomed to apply for participation until November 15, 2014.

In the occasion of the presidency, Nordic and Baltic participants will also be joined by choirs from Italy and Luxembourg, which are the presiding countries of the Council before and after Latvia.
The festival will be opened with a concert dedicated to the founder of the tradition of this festival conductor Imants Kokars (1921-2011). Workshops, concerts in regional cities, a parade of the participants and a Gala concert at the Mežaparks Open-Air stage are also included in the programme.
Since the beginning of this tradition, the festival has been held in all the Baltic and Nordic countries at least once.
To apply, choirs are welcomed to complete the application form found on the festival website.
Latvia will be the presiding country of the Council of the EU during the first half of 2015. The aim of the public diplomacy and cultural programme of the presidency is to inspire the European society and promote Latvia. Events of the programme will present Latvia as a diverse centre of culture and an outstanding destination for tourism, which will be achieved by demonstrating our cultural accomplishments in Latvia and other EU Member states, as well as outside the Europe and in international organisations.
