State Secretaries to Meet at EU Institutions in Brussels
Created on 2014-09-30On 1 and 2 October, as part of preparations for Latvia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, State Secretaries (the highest-ranking civil servants in each Ministry) will visit several EU institutions. They will review the status of preparations and outline the work still to be completed before 1 January 2015 when Latvia takes over the Presidency.
The State Secretaries will meet with the Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, Uwe Corsepius; the Secretary-General of the European Commission, Catherine Day; and members of the European Parliament. Key EU policy issues and the ways to address them during the Latvian Presidency will be a subject of conversation in those meetings. The State Secretaries will also, together with the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU, look at the preparatory work being done during this period in the lead-up to the Presidency.
The officials will meet individually with EU officials working in their fields of expertise. At the Directorates-General in charge of various EU policies, there will be an opportunity to fine-tune policies in specific sectors, and to discuss their development.
