EU Directors General for Industrial Relations will meet in Riga

The Directors General for Industrial Relations of the European Union Member States will hold their biannual meeting in Riga on Friday, 21 November, 2014 as part of events organized by the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Directors General for Industrial Relations and representatives of the European Commission will discuss the state of play of the review of the Working Time Directive, developments regarding Labour Law and social dialogue in Member States. Issue of minimum wage policies and levels in Europe, and reflections on the possibility of coordination will be on agenda.

During the meeting the priorities of the Latvian Presidency in the field of employment and social policy will be presented. The sustainable and inclusive labour market participation will be on Presidency’s focus, as well as Europe 2020 strategy review and social dialogue.

The meeting of Directors General for Industrial Relations will be the first meeting of Latvian Presidency in the field of employment and social policy. The arrangements for the meeting will be ensured by the European Commission and the Ministry of Welfare of the Republic of Latvia.

The High Level Group of Directors General for Industrial Relations comprises the Directors General for Industrial Relations of the Member States and it is created in order to provide a body for consultation, reflection, exchanges and cooperation between the Member States and the European Commission.

Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will take place from 1 January until 30 June, 2015.
