Cabinet of Ministers to present the priorities of the Latvian Presidency
Created on 2014-12-01While preparing to take over the tasks of the presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma and ministers will pay a working visit to Brussels on 3 December. Joint work session between the College of Commissioners and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia as well as several bilateral meetings of the Prime Minister of Latvia and the other ministers are planned during the visit.
Agenda of the joint working sessions covers the priorities of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Commission’s Work Programme 2015.
There is also planned a bilateral meeting between the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and the Prime Minster Laimdota Straujuma and a joint press conference. The Prime Minister has also planned a meeting with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk.
It is a common practice for the Cabinet of Ministers of the Member States to visit Brussels before the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The priorities of the Latvian Presidency are: competitive, digital and engaged Europe.
During the Latvian Presidency, around 200 events will be held in Latvia including high-level political meetings. One of the main events will be the Eastern Partnership Summit and its related meetings (Business Forum, Civil Society Forum, Media Freedom Conference and Youth Forum, etc.). There will also be 10 informal meetings of EU Ministers and the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) of Ministers for Education.
It is planned to organise the Digital Agenda Assembly, European Conference on Standardisation, Social Partners Forum, eHealth Week and other important meetings.
Note to the editor: Joint press conference with the President of the EC J.C. Junker and the Prime Minister L. Straujuma will be held at the European Commission at 14:30.
