Latvia celebrates the beginning of the EU trio presidency

The Trio Presidency of Italy-Latvia-Luxembourg began on July 1 and this occasion was marked with a ceremonial raise of the flag of the European Union in front of the Jūrmala City Council. The flag comes as a gift from the European Commission Representation to all the municipalities in Latvia with the upcoming Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Opening event of the Trio presidency

 A new Trio presidency (Italy-Latvia-Luxembourg) of the Council of the European Union will be launched on 1 July 2014, when Italy takes over the presidency of the Council. To mark this occasion several events will take place in Rīga and Jūrmala.

General Affairs Council endorses the Council's 18-months programme by the incoming trio presidencies of Italy, Latvia and Luxembourg

The General Affairs Council endorsed the 18-month programme of the Council of the European Union drawn up by the incoming trio of Presidencies – Italy, Latvia and Luxembourg. The next Trio Presidency begins on 1 July 2014, and Latvia will lead the Council's work during its second six-month period.

Throughout the year, Riga will offer an abundant, diverse and high-quality cultural programme. With around 200 cultural projects and events, including operas, exhibitions and festivals, the programme ranges from a major cultural history exhibition on the 500 years of the printed book and a contemporary arts festival to one of the biggest celebrations of the summer solstice in Europe.
